ROOTS WITHIN RETREAT

About Section

ABOUT THE JOURNEY

Retreats 2027:
10 - 15 of January (English)
19 - 24 July (Spanish and English)

We are glad to welcome you to Roots Within retreat.

Six days of holistic practices and rituals that are built into each other among modern psychology safety protocols to connect with our inner roots in an intimate container and plant the seeds for next year .

We host these retreats at One Santuario, a natural sanctuary of 80 hectares and luxury hotel in the north of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia. It is a true hideaway between white-sand Caribbean beaches and the glacial river Palomino that flows from the high peaks of Sierra Nevada down to the Caribbean.

This territory is the guardian and border of the ancestral path of the Koguis - our big brothers. The Koguis are one of the four indigenous tribes currently living in the Sierra Nevada. We have the honor of working with one of their leaders, Mamo Augustin, to start the retreat to paying a tribute "Pagamento" and asking for permission to the land and sentient beings of the territory, for us to do this spiritual work for the upcoming days.

THE SHALA

Our home, our temple, the place where we come together. At the shore of the Palomino river, our shala holds a peaceful stillness that invites presence and introspection. It is a sanctuary where minds expand, bodies release, and souls reconnect.

Around our Shala, we gather daily for a diverse set of practices such as

  • Yoga

  • Conscious Connected Breathwork focused on Archetypes (Warrior, Queen/King, Magician, Lover, Witness)

  • Somatic Movement and Boundaries Workshops

  • Temazcal Ceremony and Integration Circle

  • Rappéh Ceremony

  • Cacao Ceremony

  • Soundbaths

  • Ancestral Medicines Workshop

  • Fear Regulation Workshop

  • Trauma Sensitive Workshop

  • Sharing circles (Woman and Man Circle)

PALOMINO RIVER

Born in the sacred glaciers and cloud forests of Colombia’s Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the pristine waters of the Palomino River flow from snowy high-mountain peaks directly into the Caribbean Sea.

CEREMONIES

Throughout the retreat we offer various ceremonies to connect with the land, roots, hearts, and soul.

Temazcal is a ceremony made to be reborn, coming back to the "womb" to fully connect with our ancestors and heal through the heat of the steam and chanting. This ceremony is originally from the indigenous tribe of the Lakota and has been passed to Muiscas tribe in Colombia. We invite our big brother Buntkua from the Muisca tribe together with the medicine Woman Marlene to guide us in the Temazcal sharing the wisdom, stories and myths and chantings of his tribe and of the "Camino rojo"

Furthermore, we connect with the land and root ourselves into our bodies with the sacred tobacco Rappeh, accompanied by our brother and medicine musician Marco Gamboa with guitar, flutes, hanpans and his voice.

A closing cacao ceremony awaits us among an ecstatic dance set on the beach of the river under the stars with electronic music to connect with our hearts, the elements and the community.

INTEGRATION

As the journey unfolds, so does the need for integration. Emotions arise, feelings are felt and expressed. To hold the space collectively, we enable spaces of intimacy and vulnerability to process the energy moved throughout our collective journey in men and woman circles as well as self & co-regulation  and somatic movement workshops.
